We take compost seriously at our farm because well-made, properly finished compost is crucial for growing healthy, productive plants. That’s why ours takes six months to complete.
We only use naturally occurring ingredients — horse manure, food waste, and mulch from ground landscape waste. We take special care to turn the pile when the temperature reaches 130-140 degrees, sustaining temperatures high enough to kill off pathogens and weed seeds but cool enough to allow for the development of beneficial microbes.
Our compost is ideal for southwest gardens due to its water holding capacity, nutrient delivery properties, and its high microbial activity. Pair it with a sprinkle of our castings and a layer of our mulch for the perfect garden grown in the ground.
Our ground landscape waste comes from the City of Phoenix in a program designed to keep green waste our of our landfills. Unfortunately, it has been coming with some plastic. We screen our compost carefully, but your compost may come with a small amount of plastic.

Angela from Growing In The Garden custom designed this raised bed soil mix for southwest gardeners in Arizona's, often tricky, growing zones. This mix blends our six-month finished compost with worm castings for fertilization, coco coir for moisture retention & drainage, perlite for moisture retention & drainage, and basalt rock dust for mineralization. Add this ready-made blend in your raised beds or container gardens for the optimal mix of nutrients and water retention.
PLEASE NOTE: Effective 3/4/2021, COVID challenges at the Port of LA have made vermiculite unavailable. We will be using perlite instead of vermiculite until we can source vermiculite again. Your garden's performance should be essentially the same.
Pricing:
- Bag of Mix: $15 (1.5 cubic feet)
- Bulk (pickup or delivery): $150/cubic yard*

When starting plants, seedlings don’t have the same needs as established plants. When sprouts start, they prefer a light, fine-grained mix that promotes root growth over a dense, compact soil. Our Seed Start is a blend of coco coir, peat moss, perlite, AZWF castings, and insect frass. This ideal combination gives seedlings a loose soil structure with high microbial activity. It improves germination, reduces disease and damping off, and sets plants up for internal pest protection. Perfect for starting seeds or as a potting mix.

Mulching levels soil temperature, helps prevent weeds and pests, enhances soil fertility, and conserves moisture. We offer sustainable mulch by sourcing chipped lumberyard "waste."
This darker-colored, 1”-minus mulch is perfect for landscaping, filling in space at the bottom of a raised bed, or as a garden topper.
TO ALL MULCH CUSTOMERS:
In an effort to provide a more satisfactory product for our customers, we will no longer be selling the mulch from the City of Phoenix's landscape waste diversion program in bulk quantities. Our current mulch has substantially less debris than before; however, there may still be debris - including nails. We are actively working to find a solution, but please be aware of this as you are using this mulch.
